Cleanup Time At Corinth
Scripture, 1 Corinthians 5-6
And such were some of you, but ye are washed. (1 Cor. 6:11)
I think we're a little naïve in our approach to human nature most of the time. We keep our own failings carefully under wraps, at least in public. But when someone else displays a glaring defect of character or conduct, we raise an evangelical eyebrow and say, "Oh, I never thought that of him. He seemed to be such a good Christian." Did you ever hear that before? Did you ever say that before?
Look at these Corinthians: they suffered from moral breakdown-all different kinds of moral breakdown, as a matter of fact. They were suing one another, fellowshipping with fornicators, cheating their neighbors. And these were the Christians! Certainly Paul did not fail to point out these people's faults. But then he came to their rescue by reminding them of their position in Christ and urging them to live in light of that standing. In essence he said, "Don't you remember? Some of you were just like that! But now you are washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. You need to live on the level of what God has already done for you. When you trusted the Lord Jesus Christ, He did away with all that old stuff. You don't have to live like spiritual prostitutes anymore." Don't be surprised when somebody else has faults. Help him to get closer to Jesus. And realize you aren't perfect yourself.
Small thought here
The secret of modifying conduct is obeying the Holy Spirit. As you obey the One who dwells within you, He'll make you holy and spiritual. He'll change your perspective. Yield to Him today, dear friend!
