Love God? Love Others!

Scripture, 1 Samuel 21-24
Then Saul said unto his servants . . . "all of you have conspired against me." (1 Sam. 22:7-8)

It must have been hard getting along with someone as egotistical as King Saul, let alone work for him. He blew his stack and had a pity party at the same time when he realized that David-now on his "most wanted list"-was hiding in the area and his servants had not informed him. It must have been sad indeed to hear the king of all Israel pout, "There is none of you that is sorry for me" (22:8).

Friend, beware of a growing interest in your own concerns. You'll find the closer you get to God, the more you'll be interested in the welfare of others. "Look not every man on his own things," said Paul, "but every man also on the things of others" (Phil. 2:4). Every time I've really sought the Lord and have waited before Him until my own heart was blessed and made tender, there was immediately a proportionate increase in my care for other people. Not something that I'd tried to work up, but rather the result of God's working in my heart.

Another thought here: you can afford to let God straighten out the situation. David made one of the wisest moves of his career when he kept back from killing Saul when he had a chance there in the cave. His gesture of merely cutting off the skirt of Saul's robe was proof that there was no evil in his heart.

Small thought here
You don't have to get even with other people. "'Vengeance is Mine. I will repay,' saith the Lord" (Rom. 12:19). Give God time with people. He knows how to take care of every situation. Just make sure your own heart is right.
